Roy Searle to teach at summer school

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Roy with his four legged friendI was able to spend some time with Roy Searle this week. Amongst other conversations, he took me for a brisk walk over the hills near his home. That was where the photo was taken. Roy has written a number of the spirituality topics for the Missional Leadership course and will teach at least two of them at summer school this year. Apart from a recent term as the President of the Baptist Union, Roy is one of the leaders of the Northumbria Community.

This remarkable community is tapping into something very important in exploring the relationship between spirituality and mission. Many (though by no means all) of those who find a home in the Northumbria Community have struggled with the church. The spirituality contained within the life of the Community enables many to re-connect with their faith, with God and eventually with the church. It is no co-incidence that evangelicals and charismatics find the ancient roots of Celtic life and liturgy a helpful antidote to activism and sometimes disappointed hopes and failed prophecies. The Northumbria Community is making a vital contribution to the life of the church.
