Together in Mission began in 1992 using the name Challenge 2000. The original vision was to work with the denominations to implement the DAWN (Discipling a Whole Nation) strategy which was first developed in the Philippines.Most of the denominations adopted a church planting policy and strategy but also discovered that the implementation was not as simple as first thought. That led to a time of serious reflection on issues such as:

• What is the church?
• What new forms of the church are needed?
• How can we better understand the culture we are trying to reach?

Having asked these challenging questions church leaders recognised that we needed more than ambitious goals. As the new century approached, Challenge 2000 changed its name to Together in Mission.

Along with the name change came a determination to offer training and resources, strategies and materials.

Today, Together in Mission is committed to working with the churches to encourage church planting but also to help transition existing churches to be the kind of churches that are able to church plant.
